Photosmart # 15 - Walking in Paris (part one)
Paris is an unusual city, a city of love, beautiful architecture, art and good food. Beautiful monuments, charming streets and a crowd of tourists who, in search of this beauty, follow the whole city.
It was no different in my case, I am lucky that I have already been several times in Paris, including twice for sports purposes. I chose Paris for my debut in the semi-marathon run in 2011, and the next year I ran there in the Paris marathon. So I can say that I know this city very well. But am I right? Of course not, Paris is a huge agglomeration full of multicultural communities that are adjacent to each other and complement each other.
As in every big city there are places where you do not go for fear of your own life and health, there are such place in Paris too. Although, there are far away from city centre where tourist are visiting the most. When we went there for the first time on a weekend trip, looking for a cheap hotel, we chose a low-budget hotel in Bobigny in the northern suburbs of the city. Going by tram we were the only white passengers, but we survived :)
The next time I have chosen less 'exotic' places to stay, I decided to stay in the eastern district of Montreuil, where you can also find low budget hotels, from there it is very close to the Père-Lachaise cemetery where the grave of Morrison and Chopen and many others are located. It is very easy to travel by metro from one place to another. Our last visit to Paris was in January 2016 shortly after the attacks in November 2015, so we had some concerns about travelling by metro, in this case we drove by car into the city centre (I don't know what was more dangerous driving by car in Paris or use public transport) and we parked there and we went for walk to Paris. That's how our walk looked like.
Our walk through Paris we started from Pont au Change and we walk to Ile de la Cité
Walking on the Ile de la Cité we finally reach square in front of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris
Due to Christmas time there was the Cracow Crib presented in Cathedral
Walking along the river we reach Louvre
Today, we end our walk in Paris in the courtyard of the Louvre, I am ashamed to admit, but I had never visited the Louvre Museum yet. There was always a shortage of time, but I hope to change this during our fall trip to Paris, I want to go with my wife for a weekend to Paris and Versailles. I had not been there too.
If you liked this short walk around Paris, I invite you to comment, I will soon show you around other parts of this charming city.
