My rides #1 - 35 km - Strepy-Thieu
Let take you to little trip around place where I live, yesterday finally I was able to make a ride, because I was not able to ride earlier this month, so I decide that would not waste my time. Straight to the beginning of my season I ride to highest hills around instead of going flat road next to canal.

I know that these hills are not real big, but Belgium is mostly flat, so we must enjoy even such short 5-8% elevations. I ride along national road N538 to Le Roeulx, the road rises all the time up for the first 10 km, and finally I achieved the top point with a view on Stepy-Thieu boat lift, second biggest on the World.
Every time when you ride uphill you have to go down hill too, this is the road down. Most of this roads are country roads, so not so many cars, you can just enjoy the ride.
Another stop on the bridge next to lift, in a minute I am going to make 2 km STRAVA uphill segment on left ...
... later I am will drive down on right from the lift.
I am not ready to brake my old records on STRAVA segments, this 1,8 km segment with average 4% I ride more than one minute worse than last year, I have to train more. To give you overview the 10 best riders did this segment in less than 2:49 min.

View from the top of lift, there are on both sides of canal wide bike roads towards Brussels and Charleroi, but it will be for next time.
Average speed till now was not impressive, but I make it better overall on last 10 km, where was mostly flat. I stopped couple time to document the road.
First stop was on the food of the lift.
View from the entrance to Tourist Office on the canal were I would ride back home.
Another stop next to historical lift (first of four on The Historical Canal)...
And the last stop around 5 kilometres to home in Château de Havre, so pitty that its owner is not able to renovate castle, just couple rooms are done the rest is destroyed. In summer local community is organizing Medieval Festival with knights fights, hawks flying and a lot of attractions, people are wearing costumes from that period.

Here is the summary from Garmin Egde:

However it was good ride I bet seven PB, mostly on way back. There is still a lot to improve.
