Beer Presentation #4 - Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel (Belgium)
It is highest time to present another tasty Belgian Trappist beer. Last time I presented Chimay beer from Walloon, so for equality I present Flanders beer today. My today's choice is:
Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel

Style of this beer: Abt/Quadrupel - it is the name given to ultra-strong Trappist and abbey ales. Here we have a balance of two types the dark, with more rich, deep fruity notes of Abts and peachy notes of Quadrupel. Alcohol is very high (10+% abv).
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.
It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Brugge. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.
How I noted Straffe Hendrik Brugs Quadrupel?
Beer is beautifully dark, clear colour with lasting light brown foam head. In the nose it is medium intensity aromas of caramel, dried fruits and light chocolate. Taste is amazing: full, almost greasy, especially sweet and somewhat bitter. Flavour of caramel, dried fruits, light sweet chocolate in the mouth. Finish is long and turns from bitter to bitter-sweet. Generaly it is beer which I like the most very good, malty, fruity and spicy.
In my opinion in scale from 1 to 10, it is:
7.9
If you are fan of foodpairing Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel finds an excellent partner in chocolate.
I hope you enjoyed my first presentation.
